The El Dorado County Opioid Coalition (EDCOC) is hosting a free virtual summit, Addressing the Opioid and Overdose Crises in El Dorado County on Wednesday, March 24 from 10 AM to 1 PM. The opioid epidemic has been called the worst drug crisis to hit the US, with 2020 having the highest overdose deaths on record. Every year, tens of thousands of Americans die from opioid and other drug overdoses, devastating families, and our communities.

Nonprofits in the South Lake Tahoe area are invited to apply for $100,000 in Focus and Impact grants from the Tahoe Women's Community Fund (TWCF). The 2021 grant application process is now open and will close at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 11.

A mama bear and her three cubs were living near an apartment complex at the Y in South Lake Tahoe for several months. One day while mama bear was away, local Erik Dahman got a photo of one of the cubs. He pulled out his camera, the cub looked up at him, stood up on it's hind legs, put its paw on the tree, tilted its head, and Erik took the shot.

STATELINE, Nev. - Even though fans will not be allowed at the outdoor rink during NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe™ due to the pandemic, host hotels Harrah's and Harveys are offering ways for hockey fans to get in on the action.

Join the Tahoe Chamber for their next virtual Town Hall meeting, Education During COVID-19, on Friday, February 19. Superintendent Dr. Todd Cutler of Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) will be the guest speaker for the hour-long event that starts at 11:00 a.m.

Dr. Cutler will be discussing the latest updates on the operations of our local schools and what parents can expect moving into the spring.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The week will start off with the Lake Tahoe Basin under two different weather advisories. Starting at midnight, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 4:00 p.m. on Monday for areas above 7000 feet. Snow is expected. Total snow accumulations of 3-8 inches above 7000 feet. Slushy accumulations around an inch possible at lake level. Winds gusting to 40-45 mph with gusts near 100 mph across mountain ridgetops.

Plan on snow covered passes and travel impacts Monday morning including Donner Summit (I-80), Echo Summit (US-50), and Carson Pass (CA-88).

The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) invites the Truckee and Tahoe community to join them for Spay/Neuter Awareness month this February in observance of World Spay Day, Feb. 23.

“Spaying or neutering your pet can be the single best decision you make for their long-term welfare,” said Kara Carstensen, outreach programs manager. “It’s also the most effective and humane means of decreasing euthanasia in shelters by combating pet overpopulation”.

Five people have now been arrested on multiple charges after over $50,000 in merchandise was stolen from the Reno Lululemon store on February 5, 2021. That theft led to an investigation by multiple agencies and the recovery of merchandise from several retailers.

On Sunday, February 7, Tahoe Douglas Fire Marshal Eric Guevin found himself on the other end of a medical rescue.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two local businesses impacted by the pandemic have joined together for a special Valentine's Day pop-up market. Twine Floral will be at Cuppa Tahoe in South Lake Tahoe through Sunday with fresh and dried flower arrangements.

Andi Perry, owner of Twine Floral Co. reached out to Cuppa Tahoe owner Sandra Santané about having flower arrangements for sale for Valentine's Day. Since the coffee house and bookstore has closed its co-working space due to COVID, there was a perfect space to offer Andi's beautiful flowers.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Throughout the pandemic the rules on the California and Nevada sides of the state line in Lake Tahoe have been very different. Even though health officers in the different counties around the lake communicated and shared information and stressed for continuity, state leadership had different ways to address the health and safety situation created by the coronavirus.

It has been almost one year since COVID-related closures and restrictions began in the country.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - While spectators at high school sporting events are not allowed at this time due to health and safety guidelines, South Tahoe High Volleyball fans can still support the team.

The team is holding a "Fans in the Stands" fundraiser where purchased full color cardboard cutout fans will replace the in-person fans during the home volleyball matches.

Emerald Bay Physical Therapy started off 2021 by changing ownership. Jessica Jones purchased the comprehensive center for orthopedic and manual physical therapy from Christina Frohlich on January 1.

Jessica has been a Physical Therapist at Emerald Bay Physical Therapy since 2013.

A lost pet is a traumatic experience, especially when the outcome does not bring the dog or cat home. A South Lake Tahoe woman and her team of volunteers are trying to change that, one pet at a time.

On November 16, 2020, Jon Berg was driving on I-580 from Reno to the Carson Valley when he was involved in a rollover crash. Inside the car were Berg’s two five-year-old dachshunds Katie and Brandie. Both were spooked and they took off and ended up separated. One was chased into Voltaire Canyon and the other up Spooner Summit.

The "-" signs are due to previously counted cases moving over to other region in the county after further investigation.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The scent of flowers greeting you when walking into Enchanted Florist is a fabulous experience any time of the year, but during a major flower holiday it is even more of a treat for your senses.

With just a few days left until Valentine's Day, owner Karen Estes and her team are busy preparing for an expected 175 flower arrangements to be purchased for loved ones by Sunday. Buckets of flowers including carnations, roses, lilies, and baby's breath line the store which is located on Emerald Bay road adjacent to the South Lake Tahoe Goodwill store.

STATELINE, Nev. - Crews have arrived on the south shore of Lake Tahoe to begin a complete build of the first ever National Hockey League (NHL) outdoor rink on a golf course. The massive undertaking will be non-stop action for the next week as the rink is constructed from scratch, the water is poured, and ice created.

While this weekend's Super Bowl Weekend was far from normal, fans and gamblers still found a way to bet on the Kansas City Chiefs-Tampa Bay Buccaneers game.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board announced today that $136,096,460 was wagered in the state on the game that had Tampa Bay beating Kansas City by a score of 31-9. Casinos kept $12,574,125, a win of 9.2 percent.

On my way to college away back in the last century, I landed a summer job that a boy could only dream of having, "lifeguard at the Sands, South Shore, Lake Tahoe." So it was with a broad smile that I drove my ’55 Chevy to the lake and found a room to rent for those three months of summer, 1961.

I arrived at dawn to my first day on the job, to clean the pool, and remember the spectacle of sunshine as it bounced off the walls of the Tahoe Basin and into the pool.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) promoted Justin Brock to sergeant during a ceremony on February 8, 2021.

Sgt. Brock has been with the department since 2006 when he was hired as a Community Service Officer. SLTPD sent him through the police academy and he became an officer in 2008.

During the last 12 years, Brock has served in many positions including narcotics, detectives, officer in charge and field training officer.

"He does a great job," said SLTPD Chief David Stevenson who promoted Brock during the ceremony in front of family.
