Lake Tahoe area roadwork May 5-11

The following is a list of roadwork projects CalTrans is working on in Lake Tahoe.
LONG-TERM PROJECTS
State Routes 28/89 (El Dorado and Placer County): Work continues on a $4.8 million project to remove dead and dying trees from State Routes 28 and 89 in various locations of El Dorado and Placer counties. Completion is expected this fall. May 6-10 - State Route 28 (Placer County) from Jackpine Street to the Nevada state line: Motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic control and shoulder closures at various locations from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to noon Friday for tree removal work.
State Routes 49/193 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $3.8 million project to remove dead and dying trees from State Routes 49 and 193 in various locations of El Dorado County. Completion is expected this fall. May 6-10 - State Route 193 (El Dorado County) from the junction with State Route 49 in Cool to Rock Creek Road: Motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic control at various locations from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for tree removal work.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $14.1 million project to replace the Echo Summit Sidehill Viaduct, located 7 miles west of South Lake Tahoe. This project is replacing the current bridge, built in 1939, with a new structure to meet current design and safety standards. Completion is expected in fall of 2020. May 6-10 - U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Caltrans’ Echo Summit Maintenance Yard to Johnson Pass Road (east end): Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to noon Friday for material delivery and bridge work.
U.S. Highway 50 and State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work is starting on a $6.2 million project to convert the existing “T” intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and State Route 89 in Meyers into a three-legged roundabout with a westbound bypass lane. This project will reduce the number and/or severity of collisions at the intersection. Completing is expected this fall. No traffic-interfering work is scheduled next week.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $57 million project from the “Y” intersection at State Route 89 to the Trout Creek Bridge in South Lake Tahoe. This project is building new drainage systems to collect and treat stormwater runoff, rebuilding curbs, gutters and sidewalks, widening the highway to allow for bike lanes and resurfacing the roadway. Completion is expected this fall. May 6-10 - U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Trout Creek to Silver Dollar Avenue: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for curb, gutter and sidewalk work.
State Route 89 (Placer County): Work is scheduled to resume next week on a $35 million project in Tahoe City to build a new Truckee River bridge east of the Caltrans Maintenance Yard with roundabouts on either end of the realignment, drainage improvements, paving and a shared-use path connection. May 5-10 - State Route 89 (Placer County) from the Caltrans Tahoe City Maintenance Yard to the “Wye” intersection with State Route 28: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 11 p.m. Sunday to noon Monday and 6 p.m. to noon Monday through Friday for highway construction work.
SHORT-TERM PROJECTS
State Route 49 (El Dorado County) at the Weber Creek Bridge: Motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for guardrail replacement work.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Fresh Pond: Westbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday for core drilling work.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Pyramid Creek to Strawberry Tract: Westbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday for drainage work.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from the junction with State Route 89 in Meyers to the Gun Mount: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control around the clock from 7 a.m. Tuesday until noon Friday for tree work.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Blue Lake Avenue in South Lake Tahoe: Westbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday for utility work.
State Route 267 (Placer County) from Martis Creek Bridge to Stewart Way in Kings Beach: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday for crack sealing work.

The Caltrans District Traffic Management Branch has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes, unless noted otherwise above. Lanes are numbered from the center divide (#1) to the shoulder (#2, 3, 4, etc.).
