COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe area counties

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - There was an increase of 57 confirmed cases Friday in the Lake Tahoe area counties we've been tracking - 7 in El Dorado County, 40 in Washoe County, 2 in Quad Counties, and 8 in Placer County.

There was a jump in COVID-19 cases Friday in El Dorado County with the first diagnosed cases in the 0-17 age group. Since Thursday there were seven new confirmed cases, six in this younger group and one in the 18-49 age group. All of these cases are from the same household of a person with an earlier positive case.

All live in the Diamond Springs/El Dorado area of the county.

There have also been two new recoveries, bringing the total of recovered to 57 and active to 17.

To date, 5,077 people have been tested, a jump of 198 from Thursday.

There have been 25 cases in the Lake Tahoe area (including South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, Kyburz, and Tahoma).

Washoe County

The Regional Information Center is reporting one new death, 40 new cases of COVID-19 in Washoe County with 17 recoveries.

The deceased is a male in his 80s with underlying health conditions. This is the 49th COVID-19-related death in Washoe County.

There have been a total of 21 confirmed cases in Incline Village and one in Crystal Bay.

Total number of COVID-19 tests performed in Washoe County: 18,455 (+432 from 5/20)

Hospital bed and ventilator information
According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of May 21, 2020:

68 percent of all staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (-3 since May 20)
53 percent of the all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+1%)
15 percent of all ventilators are in use (+0%)
NOTE: Numbers are for all hospital patients in Washoe County and not just COVID-19 patients.

Quad-Counties - Carson City, Douglas, Storey, Lyon

Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is reporting an additional death due to COVID-19 in the Quad-County region, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths to four. The individual was a male Carson City resident in his 60’s. It is unknown at this time if he had underlying health conditions.

CCHHS is also reporting two new positive cases and six additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 161, with 120 recoveries and four deaths, 37 cases remain active.

The new cases are:
• A male Carson City resident in his 60’s
• A female Carson City resident in her 30’s

Carson City Health and Human Services is working to identify close risk contacts to prevent further spread of the disease. Due to medical privacy requirements and to protect their identity, no further information about the cases will be released.
