COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe area counties

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials are reporting 42 new cases of COVID-19 over the last three days, July 25-27. Of the new cases, 16 are in the Lake Tahoe region, 11 are in El Dorado Hills, eight in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, five in Placerville, and one each in the North County and Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz regions.

Of the 42 new cases, three are under the age of 18, 27 aged 18-49, nine aged 50-64 and three aged 65 and older. Twenty-two are female, 20 are male.

420 tests have been administered since Friday.

There have been another 41 likely recoveries, leaving 205 active cases of COVID-19. The recoveries are likely as there are no tests for previously confirmed residents to see if negative. Jurisdictions use a 14-day span to determine "recovered."

One more person has been admitted into the ICU, and there is a third suspected case of COVID-19 in the ICU.

One person to-date has died from the virus, a South Lake Tahoe man in his 60s.

There is a new interactive dashboard for COVID-19 that shows all current data in both Spanish and English. The new dashboard shows cases by episode date, not by the date El Dorado County Public Health was notified about the new case. Episode date is the earliest of the following dates which serves as the best approximation of the date of infection:
- symptom onset date
- diagnosis date
- specimen collection date
- date received
- date of death

The rate of new cases in El Dorado County, as shown on the dashboard pictured above, or found HERE, is the number of cases received in the state’s electronic lab reporting system (CalREDIE) over a 14-day period. The 14-day case rate being used to make the determination for whether or not a county is on the monitoring list is being calculated using episode date.

The 7-day positivity rate for El Dorado County is 4.9 percent, and the 14-day rate of new cases is 115. The Lake Tahoe and El Dorado Hills regions are High (case rate per 100,000 population over the previous 14 days of 100 or greater). Much of the balance of the county is Moderate (case rate per 100,000 population over the previous 14 days of 26-99).

County-wide there have been 555 cases with 267 of those in the Lake Tahoe area (including South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, Strawberry, and Tahoma).
