LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT) forest thinning projects are underway in the Lake Tahoe Basin. These projects are expected to continue for the next several weeks with some projects continuing through the fall, conditions and weather permitting. The Olympic Games start on Friday, and South Lake Tahoe viewers with Spectrum can watch on different channels after a new agreement the carrier made with NBCUniversal. The Games of the XXXIII Olympiad are scheduled for July 26-August 11 in Paris, France.

Spectrum video subscribers will have access to NBCU’s extensive coverage of Olympic programming, including live competition sessions (which start with team competitions on July 24), on-demand, and featuring more hours of Olympic programming on the NBC broadcast network than any previous Games.

On Thursday, August 8, UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) will host the annual State of the Lake Report presentation at Granlibakken Tahoe located at 725 Granlibakken Road just south of Tahoe City.

STATELINE, Nev. – The Tahoe Knight Monsters, ECHL Affiliate of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights and the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights, have announced the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Brandon Tabakin for the 2024-25 season.

Tabakin, 24, joins the Knight Monsters after beginning his professional career with the Newfoundland Growlers this past March, logging an assist in six appearances. Before joining the Growlers, Tabakin concluded his senior season at Arizona State University where he collected ten points (2g, 8a) in 36 games played.

The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) along with partners at Heavenly Mountain Resort, invites the public to Hike with a Ranger beginning Friday, July 26, 2024. Hikes take place every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the top of the Heavenly Gondola. The guided hikes last approximately one hour and will continue every weekend through September 29, weather permitting.

The fun-filled family concert, BIG BLUEgrass is back! On Friday, August 2, three talented bands from northern California will perform live music, with Lake Tahoe in the background. The concert lineup includes Loretta Lynch, The Real Sarahs, and local band Josh Brough String Band.

TAHOE CITY, Calif. - Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) turned Lake Tahoe pink this weekend at the 20th annual Skate the Lake presented by LivOn Labs. 185 participants joined the nonprofit in the push for prevention, raising nearly $70,000 for B4BC’s education, prevention, and survivorship programs while supporting their mission of a healthy, active lifestyle, and early detection as the best means of breast cancer prevention.

Joe is a retired human resources executive who worked in the energy and semiconductor industries. He also worked as an organization and leadership development consultant for several clients, including The Venice Family Clinic, a non-profit medical center serving the homeless and underserved communities in west Los Angeles.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Murder has been added to the list of charges against the man suspected of shooting a former South Lake Tahoe man on the morning of July 16, 2024. Christopher A. Guzman, 28, was arrested by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) as a suspect after the shooting in the 2000 block of Eloise Avenue.

STATELINE, Nev. - As the Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe announced a major renovation of its 539-room hotel and 25,000-square-foot casino on the Lake Tahoe South Shore, a Los Angeles-based liquidation company is calling foul.

Luxury 4 Less owner Tracy Hunt said she was hired to liquidate the furniture in the rooms that were being renovated, along with 125 slot machines. Hunt said that, after working with Golden Nugget management for over three weeks, she was sent an approval letter to pick up the furniture plus a Nevada Gaming Board approval letter to remove the slot machines.

NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Carnelian Bay West Beach and Patton Landing Beach will both remain closed after a sewer line break near Carnelian Bay dumped untreated sewage into Lake Tahoe on Thursday, July 18.

A private contractor struck the North Tahoe Public Utility District’s (NTPUD) main sewer export pipeline, resulting in 125,000 gallons of untreated sewage being discharged, 85,000 of those gallons ending up in the lake.

PLUMAS COUNTY, Calif. - Four fires started Monday afternoon after a thunderstorm passed through eastern Plumas County around 2 p.m. The four fires were all dry lightning strikes and were outside of the rain core of the storm.

The Mill, Mill 2, and Mill 3 fires are currently burning near the community of Whitehawk Ranch. The Smith Fire is currently burning north of California State Highway 70 between Smith Peak and Maybe. Together they are being called the Gold Complex.

TAHOMA, Calif. - A 53-year-old man from Hayward, Calif. died Monday afternoon after becoming pinned between two vehicles in the 7000 block of Lake Blvd., Tahoma.

On July 22, 2024, at approximately 12:53 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers from South Lake Tahoe were dispatched to a strip mall parking lot where they found a victim crushed between a truck tractor and trailer combination and a Ford F450.
