Submitted by paula on Tue, 10/13/2020 - 5:20pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say another two residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday. Of those, one is in El Dorado Hills and one in the Lake Tahoe Region.
The new cases: 1 is aged 18-49, 1 is aged 65 or over.
Another 89 people were tested for the coronavirus and 87 negative tests results were received.
There have been another 15 assumed recoveries with 133 assumed active cases.
There is currently one COVID-19 ICU patient at Marshall or Barton hospitals, and no suspected cases.

Of those, two are in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, eight from El Dorado Hills, one in Diamond Springs/El Dorado, and nine in the Lake Tahoe Region.
The new cases: 6 are under the age of 18, 10 aged 18-49, 2 aged 50-64. and 2 are 65 or over.
Another 628 people were tested for the coronavirus and 608 negative tests results were received.
There have been another 28 assumed recoveries with 154 assumed active cases.
Red Flag Warning for Lake Tahoe Saturday
Submitted by paula on Fri, 10/09/2020 - 7:26pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has upgraded their previous warnings for the Lake Tahoe Basin. There is now a Red Flag Warning in effect Saturday, October 10 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.
The combination of gusty winds and extremely dry fuels can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them, so use extreme caution.

Of those, two are in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, one was removed from the El Dorado Hills count one in Greater Placerville, and five in the Lake Tahoe Region.
The new cases: 1 is under the age of 18, 5 aged 18-49, and 1 aged 50-64.
Another 214 people were tested for the coronavirus and 207 negative tests results were received.
There have been another seven assumed recoveries with 154 assumed active cases.

This is the largest number of cases for a three-day period since the pandemic started.

High blue-green algae toxins detected in Alpine County lakes
Submitted by paula on Fri, 09/25/2020 - 9:39amThe levels of toxins associated with blooms of blue-green algae have reached above the "danger" level at Red Lake in Alpine Count, and at the "warning" level at Indian Creek Reservoir.
The Alpine County Health Department has been working with The Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board, California Department of Fish and Wildlife (Red Lake), South Tahoe Public Utility District (Indian Creek Reservoir), and the Alpine Watershed Group (AWG) in determining these levels.

U.S. Highway 50 Echo Summit project ahead of schedule
Submitted by paula on Wed, 09/23/2020 - 1:15pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Crews working on replacing the 81-year-old bridge on US50 over Echo Summit are ahead of schedule and the road may reopen before the previous opening date of October 2. The ultra high-performance concrete that connects the seven 96-foot girders has cured and the bridge is at strength.
Wednesday morning the inside concrete barrier rail was poured and the outside concrete barrier rail is planned to be poured on Thursday. Asphalt paving on the approaches to the bridge is planned to start this Sunday.

Echo Summit project remains ahead of schedule
Submitted by paula on Tue, 09/22/2020 - 3:52pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - All seven of the 96-foot long girders have been placed on US50 at Echo Summit. Over night, ultra-high performance concrete was poured to connect them and now heating blankets are keeping the concrete warm during its curing process.
NEXT STEPS
Concrete barrier rail is planned to be poured starting tomorrow morning.
Asphalt paving on the approaches to the bridge is planned to start this Sunday.
According to Caltrans, the project remains ahead of schedule to reopen by or before Oct. 2.

Fire Weather Advisory issued for Lake Tahoe Thursday-Friday
Submitted by paula on Tue, 09/15/2020 - 7:10pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Fire Weather Watch to be in effect for Lake Tahoe and Western Nevada for Thursday at 11:00 a.m. through Friday at 8:00 p.m.
Winds will be from the southwest on Thursday, shifting to west on Friday. Sustained winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph possible for both days. Strongest gusts Thursday could be US Highway 50 north and on Friday could be US Highway 50 south. Winds in valleys should weaken late Thursday evening, while Sierra ridges continue to gust in the 70-90 mph range overnight.

Officials say another 14 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since Friday. Of those, seven are in South Lake Tahoe, five in El Dorado Hills, one in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, and one in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz.
Another 467 people were tested for the coronavirus and 453 negative tests results were received.

Lake Tahoe Unified School District revamps food delivery bus schedule
Submitted by paula on Sat, 09/12/2020 - 8:25amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Meal Delivery schedule for Phase 1 Distance learning is being changed starting Monday, September 14. At the beginning of the school year there were seven buses and, based on figures from the first two weeks, routes have been adjusted and there are now five buses.
The buses are loaded with breakfasts and lunches and each student can stop by a bus stop or one of the four selected school sited to pick the meals up Monday-Friday (unless a school holiday).

Alpine County News: No outdoor fires on private land, COVID testing change
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/10/2020 - 3:03pmALPINE COUNTY, Calif. - Effective immediately, Alpine County health officer Dr. Johnson has ordered all outdoor fires, including campfires, bonfires, pit fires, charcoal fires, or any other open flame fires prohibited on all private lands throughout Alpine County. This prohibition shall be reviewed by the Board of Supervisors at their next meeting and each meeting thereafter and will continue until terminated by action of the Board.
This goes with the closure announced Thursday of the 400,000-acre Carson Ranger District which includes Alpine County.

None of those are in the Lake Tahoe area, six were in El Dorado Hills, and one each in Greater Placerville and South County.
Of the new cases, five are aged 18-49, and two aged 50-64.
An additional 180 tests were administered and 172 tests came back negative.
There have been six assumed recoveries with no confirmed patients in the hospital. There is one suspected case in the ICU.
To date, two county residents have died.

Two were in El Dorado Hills, two in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz, and one in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue. Of those cases, two are aged 18-49, one aged 50-64 and four aged 65 or older.
An additional 117 people were tested. Another 110 negative tests results were returned and there were 12 assumed recoveries since yesterday.

They didn't despair though, and spent the down time roasting beans, expanding their menu and putting everything they sell online for all to enjoy. Opening a new business is always tough, exciting and stressful, but COVID-19 added a whole lot of unknowns to the picture.

Submitted by paula on Tue, 09/01/2020 - 5:13pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say there have been another six cases of COVID-19 since Monday and none of them are from the Lake Tahoe region. Three were in El Dorado Hills, two in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue and one in Greater Placerville. Of those cases, four are aged 18-49, one aged 50-64 and one aged 65 or older.
An additional 190 people were tested. Another 184 negative tests results were returned and there were 10 assumed recoveries over the weekend.
There are no current hospitalizations and there are no suspected cases in the hospital.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/31/2020 - 6:33pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say there have been another 16 cases of COVID-19 since Friday, four in the Lake Tahoe region, five in El Dorado Hills, three in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue and Greater Placerville, and one in South County. Of those cases, one is under the age of 18, 12 ages 18-49, one aged 50-64 and two aged 65 or older.
An additional 468 people were tested. Another 452 negative tests results were returned and there were 21 assumed recoveries over the weekend.
South Lake Tahoe forecast: Hazy start and hot finish to the week

August wraps up with widespread haze from the fires north of the lake and a slightly "cooler" day. Things will be clearing out Tuesday and an unusually warm air mass takes hold the end of the week and through the weekend with temperatures likely to near record highs.
Safety changes: Vail moves to presale of lift tickets to manage number of guests
Submitted by paula on Sun, 08/30/2020 - 10:41amHeavenly, Kirkwood and Northstar, all members of the Vail Resorts family, will be operating differently during the winter season 2020/21. Vail plans on opening both Heavenly and Northstar on November 20 and Kirkwood on December 4.
Ticket sales, use of season passes and facility uses will all be handled to promote physical distancing and protect the safety of staff and guests.

One of those is in the Lake Tahoe area, one in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, one in Diamond Springs/El Dorado, one in Placerville and five in El Dorado Hills. Of these, one is under the age of 18, six are aged 18-49, one aged 50-64 and one aged 65 or older.
Another 325 tests were administered. 316 negative test results were returned.
There are an assumed 11 more recoveries, bringing that total to 830.
New reopening guidelines released for El Dorado County and California
