Stebel was sworn by Sheriff Ron Pierini at the Douglas County Judicial Building. Several captains, sergeants, deputies and staff, as well as his wife Beth, family and close friends came to support him in his new position which he worked so hard to attain.
Women of the Moose in SLT help local homeless youth

WOTM help out with the kids who are part of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District's McKinney Vento program. LTUSD receives an annual allocation of about $1,000 to purchase school supplies and help with bus transportation for its approximately 250 homeless students.
South Lake Tahoe police work to keep area bike trails safe

After the May 4, 2016 stabbing of two men on the isolated section of bike trail behind Meeks Lumber, SLTPD Lt. Brian Williams offered that advice for the bikers and walkers that utilize the trails.
Suspected pipe bomb found in South Lake Tahoe turns out to be hoax

The bomb has been considered a hoax device meant to cause the major response by law enforcement that it did, according to SLTPD Chief Brian Uhler. Evidence is being gathered and roads will soon reopen.
At approximately 6:35 a.m. this morning, a groundskeeper working at the El Dorado County Courthouse located at 1354 Johnson Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe noticed a suspicious device in front of the courthouse.
Report of gunshots brings out law enforcement to Meyers
Submitted by paula on Tue, 05/03/2016 - 9:44pmEl Dorado County Central Dispatch received a call about gunshots heard in the Meyers area on Monday, May 2 at 9:53 p.m. The caller, a passerby in the area of South Upper Truckee and the Old Meyers Grade said they heard 12-15 gunshots.
A Sheriff deputy responded at 10:08 p.m. and didn't hear or see any suspicious activity in the area.
A check of the area did not reveal anything of concern. No further shots were reported but the deputy remained in the area for an extended period of time just to make sure.
Four cited for selling alcohol to minors
Submitted by paula on Mon, 05/02/2016 - 1:50pmFour people were cited for selling alcohol to minors on April 29 during a compliance sting by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.
During the operation, minors under the direct supervision of officers, attempted to purchase alcohol from ten retail licensees in the city limits.
40 percent of those businesses sold alcohol to the teen decoys. Clerks at Safeway Gas, Chevron Gas, Whiskey Dicks and Chevy's Restaurant were all cited and face a minimum fine of $250, and/or 24 to 32 hours of community service for a first violation.

With this approval, the Supervisors support plans to improve pedestrian and bicycle access and safety around Lake Tahoe schools through infrastructure upgrades, education and encouragement programs, and better enforcement of traffic laws.
Sunday's home explosion highlights issue of BHO labs in South Lake Tahoe

While the incident on Plum Street is still under investigation by the South Lake El Dorado Narcotics Enforcement Team (SLEDNET), and few details have been released, the subject is one of not only local concern, but one of national concern.

Two arrested in Carson City on methamphetamine trafficking charges

Marell Maurice Johnson, 42, and Desire Lynn Kissel-Hunziker, 25, were arrested at the North Carson Street Taco Bell by the Nevada DPS Tri-Net team after a sale, and purchase, of drugs transpired. The pair allegedly had nearly 1 pound of high quality methamphetamine for sale on them at the time of their arrest.
El Dorado County Sheriff's deputy involved in three-car crash

The men’s elite race Stage 5 will begin in Lodi, Calif. at 10 a.m., and finish around 3:45 p.m. at Heavenly Mountain Resort’s California Base Lodge in South Lake Tahoe totaling 132.4 miles. The women’s Stage 1 will start at 10:50 a.m. and finish approximately at 2:00 p.m. at Heavenly, totaling 72.7 miles.

Washoe Sheriff cybercops nab child predator in Reno

Law Enforcement became aware of Larsen after a tip was provided to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s “Cybertipline.”
El Dorado County teen latest victim of counterfeit hydrocodone

In Sacramento County, six deaths are attributed to the pills, and the death of county resident George Berry is now the seventh suspected victim. The pills ingested are actually Fentanyl, which is 80 times as potent as morphine and hundreds of times more potent than heroin.
El Dorado Savings in Georgetown robbed at gunpoint

The suspect is identified as being a white male adult, was wearing blue jeans, blue rain coat and a San Francisco 49ers ball cap. He was armed with a black pistol and seen leaving the area in a red Dodge Durango, most likely a 2004-09 model.
El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies, detectives and CSI personnel, along with allied law enforcement, responded to the bank and interviewed numerous employees, customers and witnesses.
STAR looking for volunteers in El Dorado County

Three women working for escort service arrested in Stateline sting

The prostituted women, 23-year-old Claudia Bernal, Brenda Fee, 51, and 30-year-old Monique Lopez were arrested after DCSET was investigating reports of prostitution in the Stateline casino core. All three women were associated with an unnamed escort service.

St. Patrick's Day DUI checkpoint in South Lake Tahoe

Carson City man arrested on slew of charges in El Dorado County
Submitted by paula on Thu, 03/10/2016 - 5:26pmAn early morning armed robbery in Camino, Calif., led to the arrest of 22-year-old Aaron Friesen of Carson City on charges of robbery, vehicle theft and on an outstanding felony warrant for domestic violence.
At 5:30 a.m. Thursday, March 10, the Wine County Station just off Highway 50 was robbed at gunpoint with the suspect getting away in a vehicle. An alert witness at the scene gave law enforcement detailed information about both the suspect and the vehicle used in the getaway.
El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputy on paid leave has third DUI
Submitted by paula on Wed, 03/09/2016 - 7:25pmJohn "Tony" Broadfoot, a deputy with the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department, was arrested by the California Highway Patrol on March 4 on charges of driving under the influence after an accident in the Shingle Springs area. This was Broadfoot's third DUI arrest in as many months.
On December 8, 2015, Broadfoot was placed on administrative leave after being arrested on DUI charges by the CHP in South Lake Tahoe. Then on February 25, 2016, he was arrested, again by CHP officers, when found to be under the influence after rolling his vehicle near Ice House Road and Highway 50.

LTBMU would like to hear what local OHV needs are in the basin, so they are accepting public comment from March 8 to April 4, 2016. .
Funds for the grants come from the State of California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation (OHMVR) Division.

Our property crime rate is up 6% (from 516 in 2014 to 548 in 2015). This was not unexpected as we reported on a significant upward trend in property crime 6 months ago. Total crime is down 2.2% over last year.
Missing ski instructor Carson May found in five feet of snow
Submitted by paula on Mon, 02/29/2016 - 6:07pmTwo search and rescue teams training in the snow at the Sugar Bowl Resort on Monday found the body of missing ski instructor Carson May.
The El Dorado County Search and Rescue dog teams, along with the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue team, located May under five feet of snow in an avalanche prone out-of-bounds area at the resort.
Carson May, 23, was a ski instructor at the resort and went missing Jan. 15, 2016. He was not found despite an intensive, four-day search by dozens of volunteers and law enforcement officers.
South Lake Tahoe police investigate threat made by STHS student

South Lake Tahoe Police Officers responded to the school and conducted an investigation. Many parents were concerned after receiving messages from their children and seeing the extra law enforcement on campus.
"We have interviewed students and spoken with the one behind the situation," said SLTPD Lt. Brian Williams.
Gregory “Scott” Baker named Tahoe Douglas Fire's new Assistant Fire Chief

Baker, who brings with him over 20-years of service, comes to the fire district from the Reno Fire Department where his most recent position was that of Division Chief of Fleet and Facilities.

Thirteen DCSO Explorers handled pedestrian control, traffic control and security details in and around the famous 17 mile drive in Pebble Beach. They saw golf professionals like Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh as well as amateurs like Justin Timberlake, Mark Wahlberg, Carson Daly and Larry The Cable Guy.

Gonzalez is currently being held at the Washoe County Jail on a felony charge for possession of stolen property as well as reckless driving, driving without a driver’s license, fail to stop at the scene of an accident, fail to give information to party at accident and failure to obey a peace officer.

Missing woman's car found near Emerald Bay
Submitted by paula on Sat, 02/20/2016 - 12:41pmThe car belonging to Carolyn Batchelor, the Zephyr Cove woman missing since February 15, has been found near Emerald Bay, but there is still no sign of the 69-year-old woman.
The California Highway Patrol located the vehicle in the area of Inspiration Point, overlooking the bay near South Lake Tahoe. El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and Search and Rescue team, along with Douglas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue are searching the area where Batchelor's car was found.
Sheriff seeks public's help in finding missing Lake Tahoe woman

Carolyn Batchelor, 69, was last seen by her roommate as she left her home in the 100 block of Willow Drive in Zephyr Cove, Nev.
She has not returned calls and her destination was unknown.
When last seen, Carolyn was wearing a long black coat. She is 5'07" tall, weighs about 180 pounds, has shoulder length blonde hair and blue eyes. She was last seen leaving in her silver Honda Pilot SUV with Nevada plates HP2295.

He spoke about the bill, which has bipartisan support, in a weekly Republican address.
“This epidemic does not discriminate,” Senator Portman said. “Zip codes don’t matter. It’s affecting our cities, suburban areas, and rural counties. Young or old, rich, middle class or poor, black, white, Hispanic or Asian. The grip of addiction affects all of us.”

The Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra is holding a community Child Fingerprinting ID event at the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe on February 16 and 17 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.
Nationally, large numbers of children run away or are abducted each year. Local law enforcement officers have indicated that having a record of fingerprints can be helpful in an effort to safely return the children to their homes.
Man shot and killed at South Lake Tahoe motel
Submitted by paula on Sat, 01/30/2016 - 10:39pmA man was shot and killed at the Beverly Lodge in South Lake Tahoe Saturday night. At about 7:42 p.m. on January 30, 2016, several people called 911 to report shots being fired at the motel which is located at 34780 Lake Tahoe Boulevard.
Officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department responded immediately as did an EMS unit from the fire department. Upon arrival they found a man who had been shot, lying on the ground outside one of the rooms at the motel. He was transported to Barton Hospital where he died within a few minutes of arrival.

The plastic bag ban ordinance was amended to only affect grocery stores and not retail outlets. Former Mayor Hal Cole asked for the issue to be brought back before the council in October. "I thought we were only voting to bring the ordinance back for review, not to pass it," Cole said about his vote on October 15, 2013.
