SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It was a big day for Lake Tahoe Community College's (LTCC) soccer teams on Saturday when they both played in the California Community College Athletic Association's 3C2A Northern California Regionals.

This year is the first time since 2009 that a college has had both the men's and women's teams win the 2023 Golden Valley Conference, sending them to the postseason.

South Lake Tahoe’s Molly Armanino, Professional Freeride Skier and Barton Athlete has been selected to compete in the 2024 Freeride World Tour.

The Freeride World Tour is a world-class, international snowsports competition - where more than 40 skiers and snowboarders will perform tricks on natural, ungroomed terrain for the ‘World Champion’ title.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Dr. Matthew Minson was appointed the county’s public health officer and local registrar for vital statistics during the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday.

The board unanimously approved Dr. Minson to fill the position left vacant by Dr. Nancy Williams who retired in June.

ALPINE COUNTY, Calif. - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is working on SR88 between Crystal Springs Road and Deep Canyon due to two borders falling on the roadway overnight.

Emergency traffic controls went into effect at 8 a.m. Friday and motorists may be experiencing delays. Caltrans will temporarily close SR88 from Crystal Springs Road to Deep Canyon at 1:15 p.m. so maintenance crews can perform blasting and cleanup operations to remove the boulders from the roadway.

This full road closure is expected to remain in effect for 30 to 45 minutes.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two adults were arrested for furnishing alcohol to minors during an operation conducted by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) on November 11, 2023.

CARSON CITY, Nev. - Plans by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) to create a road diet along US50 between Stateline and SR28 have been changed after the Transportation Board's meeting this week. Plans for reducing the four lanes to three lanes, with middle turn lanes and bike lanes to address safety concerns and access have been a hot topic. While most have stated they want safer roads, they didn't like the lane reduction plans.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials confirmed the first human death related to neuroinvasive West Nile Virus this year. The death occurred at the end of October. The individual was over the age of 55 and resided on the West Slope of El Dorado County.

In California in 2023 there have been ten deaths to West Nile Virus out of 317 human cases. In 2022 there were just 120 human cases in California with the five-year average being 147.4 cases annually.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors (BOS) approved $4.4 million for the new Cal Tahoe JPA ambulance buildings in South Lake Tahoe.

The JPA had been searching for a home for ambulances and staff and after a search of available buildings that would be centrally located, the county-owned building at 3066 Lake Tahoe Blvd. was chosen.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - A Round Hill, Nevada man has pleaded guilty to several charges that came as a result of a 2022 investigation into lewdness and sexual assault of minors.

Zachary Nance was 35 years old at the time of his December 2022 arrest at his McFaul Way home.

Mountain staff is monitoring the weather minute-by-minute, and their expert snowmaking teams are ready to make snow at every possible opportunity so they can open for the 2023/24 ski and ride season the moment they’re able to.

Kirkwood is still scheduled to open on Friday, December 1, conditions permitting.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It was a day of superheroes at Sierra House Elementary School. Students dressed for the occasion as the Marcella Foundation and Lift Literature joined forces to celebrate reading through their BookMode program. Each second grader received a free Kindle Paperwhite and Bluetooth headset to help create a passion for the joy of reading.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Being prepared for wildfire and maintaining defensible space is a year-round activity in our fire-prone and fire-dependent Lake Tahoe Region. This fall, residents should remove dry vegetation around their homes and properties. Recent precipitation, along with higher fuel moistures and cooler temperatures, make for an ideal
conditions for debris burning, if it is safe or allowed for the property.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The South Lake Tahoe Police Department, along with agents of the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), cited five clerks for selling alcohol to minors on November 10, 2023. The actions were the result of a Minor Decoy operation which included minors under the direct supervision of department agents that attempted to purchase alcohol from 14 retail licensees in South Lake Tahoe.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) recently assisted Clean Tahoe and U.S. Forest Service law enforcement in cleaning up along the sides of Trout Creek and removing garbage around homeless camps.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. ─ If you type “Inversion Gym Tahoe” in your browser, a website will pop up for a program run by Coach Amy Thompson on the south shore of Lake Tahoe. With her husband Tristan Cochrane and two daughters, Coach Amy and her staff host classes and programs serving hundreds of South Shore residents every year. If you visit the gym in person, you will see a lime green sign hanging above the gym door on Eloise Avenue. Inside during program hours, you will feel the hum of activity-focused health, excellence, teamwork, and personal growth.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – The Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT) is scheduled to continue prescribed fire operations over the next several weeks at Lake Tahoe, conditions and weather permitting. Recent precipitation and low temperatures have provided ideal conditions and opportunities for firefighters to burn in multiple locations. Smoke from these operations may be present throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin.

During the annual Optimist Club of South Lake Tahoe's annual Day in Paradise, local businessman Ben Fagen won the duck race.

The event, held along the Truckee River in Tahoe Paradise Park, raises money to help the Optimists with their local youth projects. They will also be opening their Christmas Tree lot in South Lake Tahoe after Thanksgiving.

Ben Fagen of Ben Fagen Designs and his associate, architect Natalia Wieczorek, chose Tahoe Magic as the recipient of the $1,000 winnings. Tahoe Magic is a local non-profit that helps families in need when they need it most.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Library and the Friends of the Libary are hosting, Mystery at the Library on Saturday, December 2 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Local mystery writers Robert Max, Gary Thomas Edwards, and Lisa Michelle will read passages from their books and share their journey to becoming an author. Attendees will have a chance to ask questions, and purchase books for your
mystery-loving friends and family.

Every attendee will receive a drawing ticket for special door prizes and can try their skill at their mystery book trivia quiz. Free and open to the public.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Mild and dry conditions with gusty winds will persist through Wednesday in the Lake Tahoe Basin and Western Nevada. An upper low lingering along the California coast will eventually move across portions of California and Nevada late this week with cooler temperatures, said the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. Periods of mountain snow showers and valley rain showers are expected with travel impacts will be possible mid to late week for the Sierra passes in heavier snow showers.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Mt. Tallac High School and Elevated Digital Learning Academy are in a new home this school year, and they opened their doors recently for an "Alt Ed Showcase."

The two schools now operate out of the old Al Tahoe Elementary School building on Lyons Avenue in South Lake Tahoe. The Boys and Girls Club moved into their new home next door, leaving the classrooms and grounds ready for a metamorphosis. The walls have been painted, and the rooms are now full of new desks and tables, and comfortable learning areas. There are signs of encouragement throughout the school.
