Westbound Highway 50 was closed briefly at Spooner Junction early Sunday evening after a report of a man with a rifle running on the roadway. Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol arrested the man at gunpoint and recovered a rifle.

The highway reopened at around 5:50 p.m. Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies made a felony traffic stop shortly afterward.

It is unknown at this time if the two incidents are related.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board released its monthly revenue report today and casinos on the south shore of Lake Tahoe posted an 11.50 percent increase when compared to May 2018.

Nevada’s nonrestricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $981,842,080 for the month, a 5.96 percent decrease compared to May 2018, when licensees
reported a gaming win of $1,044,072,414. For the fiscal year (July 1, 2018 through May 31, 2019), gaming win for the state has decreased 0.12 percent.

The "gaming win" represents the computed income of casinos before business expenses and taxes.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The man accused of causing the death of Carson City resident Hugo Parra-Solis was in Tahoe Township Court on Tuesday.

Dressed in his jail-issued jumpsuit and shoes, the chained Jerrad Dominguez appeared in front of visiting Judge Nancy Oesterle. He does not have an attorney and told the judge he was trying to secure a Nevada attorney. Due to a lack of counsel, Dominguez did not enter any pleas.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The community is coming together to help the wife and children of Hugo Parra-Solis, the 37-year-old Carson City resident who was killed by an impaired driver near Stateline on Thursday.

Over 1,800 runners will be participating in this weekend's 5th annual Rock Tahoe Half Marathon. The race, presented by Epic Tahoe Adventures (ETA), sends the runners past the spectacular scenery of many of Tahoe’s east and south shore treasures including Glenbrook, Logan Shoals, Cave Rock, Round Hill Pines, Nevada Beach, and Rabe Meadow. They wind down over 1,000 feet from Spooner Summit to the finish line at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe.

Western Nevada College has named 308 students to the Spring 2019 Dean’s List. For consideration to WNC’s Dean’s List, students must complete at least 12 units during the semester and accumulate a grade point average of 3.50 or higher.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - "Never again," chanted the dozens of people that showed up to Trout Creek Thursday to show support of the Jewish community after anti-Semitic graffiti was found underneath the bridge on Lake Tahoe Boulevard.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - While most gambling markets in the state of Nevada saw slight decreases in reported revenues, both the south and north shores of Lake Tahoe saw double-digit decreases in the month of April when compared to 2018.

The South Shore casinos had a 12.54 percent drop in their "gaming win" figures and the North Shore dropped 16.13 percent. The South Shore's $13,064,449 in reported win is $1,873,766 less than the same month in 2018. On the North Shore, their $1,299,849 in gaming win is $249,905 less than last year.

Western Nevada College celebrated a record 617 graduates during its commencement ceremony earlier today at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion in Carson City. The 2019 graduating class will receive 651 degrees and certificates of achievement.

Two male subjects were involved in a shooting in North Douglas County late Saturday night in the Indian Hills area south of Carson City, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Both are receiving medical care at this time.

No law enforcement officers were involved in the shooting. No arrests have been made at this time. There are no outstanding suspects nor is there any threats to our community. This is still an open investigation, according to DCSO Undersheriff Ron Elges.

STATELINE, Nevada - Casinos on both the north and south ends Lake Tahoe saw a gain in revenue in March 2019 according to figures released by the Nevada Gaming Control board.

Revenue on the South Shore was $15,913,477, up 9.16 percent from the same month a year ago when revenue was $14,577,529. On the North Shore, their reported revenue of $2,085,064 was up 2.2 percent from March 2018.

Statewide, the revenues reported by casinos was $1,022,974,672, down .12 percent from last year.

UPDATE 8:30AM 4/27/19: An observant officer from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) was on patrol near the Heavenly Village at approximately 9:45 p.m. Friday night when he saw a car listed on a Bay Area police "Be On The Lookout" report go through an intersection. The report said the driver was a suspect in two homicides, one in each Oakland and San Francisco.

He followed the vehicle and attempted to pull it over with the assistance of another officer, but the driver took off and a pursuit began.

Carson City was abuzz Thursday evening at the Nevada State Legislature, in which over 100 Nevadan residents gathered to support honeybees, and their ability to be kept by residents.

Senate Bill 389 relates to the ability to keep bees in residential zones in Nevada and has been hotly debated since it was announced on March 20. It was read during a Natural Resources Committee meeting Wednesday.

Residents attended to an extent that legislative staff needed to open an overflow room to provide for those gathered, in which the meeting was televised from down the hall.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - More than a foot of snow fell overnight at ski resorts around Lake Tahoe, with a few inches falling at lake level. With the snow came road closures and chain controls, but sunny skies this morning are allowing road crews to finish plowing and those controls will be dropping during the day.

Sierra-at-Tahoe reports 16 inches of snow in the last 24 hours, with 15 inches at Heavenly, 14 inches at both Mt. Rose and Alpine Meadows and 13 inches at Kirkwood.

Gaming revenue for the State of Nevada during the month of January 2019 showed an decrease over the same month a year ago, posting a loss of 3.01 percent with a "win" of $984,526,623 for casinos in the state (down $30.5M) according to figures released by the Nevada Gaming Control Board today.

The South Shore of Lake Tahoe experienced a loss when compared to January 2018 as well, down 14 percent with their recorded "win" of $16,892,197. This was the largest percentage loss in the state.
