A man wanted for questioning for his possible involvement in a homicide in Pleasant Hill, California was arrested at Stateline Sunday night.

On Sunday, April 23 at approximately 9:22 p.m., a license plate detector near Kingsbury Grade in Stateline, Nevada alerted law enforcement of a vehicle whose driver had a felony warrant out for his arrest as a person of interest in connection with a Bay Area homicide. The warrant had been issued by the Pleasant Hill Police Department.

With a break in the action on the courts, the Sacramento Kings' mascot "Slamson" hit the slopes at Sugar Bowl Resort on Saturday. He got in some spring skiing as the resort hosted its annual season-ending party.

There was the Sugar Bowl Tiki Pond Skim which included costumed skiers and riders attempting to cross the pond between the Disney and Nob Hill chairlifts near the Village Lodge base area, with live music, a pop-up tiki bar, and a snow beach viewing area to watch the action.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The mural painted on the temporary walls at Tahoe Wellness Center (TWC) in South Lake Tahoe came down on Friday. People loved the art, disliked it, or ignored it, but it is now gone as TWC owner Cody Bass prepares to unveil the business expansion.

While the mural on the outside is gone, the same artist, MEAR ONE, is painting another on one full wall inside the cannabis dispensary.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Supervisor Brooke Laine held a Vacation Home Rental (VHR) update meeting with El Dorado County staff Wednesday night in Meyers. On the agenda was a presentation from the county's VHR Program Manager, Brendan Ferry.

Laine said the meeting was to "start the conversation" as the county reviews the current ordinance and looks for possible updates.

Originally scheduled for a March Board of Supervisors' meeting but postponed due to heavy snow, Ferry gave attendees the same presentation he'll give to the board on May 2.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Barbara Parina remembers March 5, 2023, very well.

"The chandelier was swaying and there were cracking noises coming from the roof," said Barbara, the owner of South Lake Tahoe's Sidestreet Boutique. She knew it was more than nearby avalanche control cannons but was not exactly sure what was happening. She got the customers out and closed up.

At 10:58 p.m. that evening, the cameras showed her what was happening - the roof above Sidestreet Boutique collapsed and the sprinkler system cracked, sending massive amounts of water into the store.

The In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Public Authority Advisory Committee of El Dorado County is seeking new members to fill current consumer and provider vacancies. The IHSS Public Authority Advisory Committee is appointed by the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors and serves in an advisory capacity to the Board and the IHSS Public Authority on issues and concerns affecting recipients and providers of the IHSS Program.

The Lake Tahoe Basin grading and digging season for permitted projects normally runs from May 1 to October 15, but with the record snowpack this year at the lake, some projects and sites may be delayed this year due to unseasonal amounts of snow and wet conditions.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) said property owners and project managers should plan ahead for delays to the start of grading activity and pre-grade inspections.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Another cold storm moves into the region Monday into Tuesday bringing gusty winds, significantly cooler temperatures, and
chances for rain and snow showers (sorry about the "s" word).

There is another Lake Wind Advisory in place for Lake Tahoe from 1 p.m. Monday to 8 a.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) said winds from the southwest are expected during this time - 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph expected. Waves on the lake will be 2 to 4 feet.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Community Services Director Scott Morgan was recently honored with a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the Nevada Recreation and Parks Society (NRPS). For only the second time in its 77-year history, NRPS awarded him the Dundee Award which was named after Dundee Jones who was a pillar of professionalism in the industry and the first Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Henderson.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 22, 2023, and in South Lake Tahoe it will coincide with Earth Day at Lake Tahoe Community College.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department and the Tahoe Alliance for Safe Kids (TASK) will have a booth at the Earth Day event. Bring expired, unwanted, and unused human and pet prescription medications and drop them off at their booth into secure bins. No syringes or sharps will be accepted.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - In search of a perfect, balanced ordinance for vacation home rentals in Douglas County, the Vacation Home Rental (VHR) Advisory Board created a list of proposed changes and presented it to the County's planning commission, and on Monday, the County's Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) held a special meeting to discuss.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A South Lake Tahoe home is a total loss after a Tuesday evening fire on Heather Lake Road.

At 11:23 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) responded to the single-story home to find a fully developed fire. It was knocked down quickly but the damage had already been extensive.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - El Dorado County District V Supervisor Brooke Laine is hosting a Vacation Home Rental (VHR) Public Forum on Wednesday, April 19 from 5:30 p.m. – 7 pm at the Lake Tahoe Environmental Science Magnet School, located at 1095 E. San Bernardino Ave in the Meyers area of South Lake Tahoe.

Laine will be updating the public with a presentation on the current status of the County's VHR program and receive questions and comments from citizens. This is an information-gathering meeting.

If conditions remain favorable, the Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT) will resume prescribed fire operations this week at Lake Tahoe. The Nevada Division of Forestry and the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit are scheduled to burn hand piles on the East Shore beginning Tuesday, April 11, 2023. Ignitions typically begin around 10 a.m. and smoke will be present.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If one hasn't been successful playing a game of DodgePothole this winter, then they have been successful in finding one of the hundreds of potholes along streets at Lake Tahoe. Several roads have been damaged from the impacts of the endless winter and its severe storms, and the City of South Lake Tahoe has laid out its road repair plan.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has a major project planned for US50 at Warrior Way this summer, along with the third season of a multi-year project to help preserve pavement on sections of State Routes 431 and 28 near Incline Village.

Work is expected to commence on the projects on May 1.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Pleasant spring weather will prevail through Monday as high pressure continues to amplify over the western US. An upper-level trough currently situated over the Gulf of Alaska will shift, with another ridge developing behind the trough on Friday, which will favor a gradual warming trend into the weekend. Right now the early models are showing signals of another round of cooler and unsettled weather early next week.

But in the meantime, enjoy pleasant temperatures around Lake Tahoe in the coming week, though it will get windy at times.

Earlier this week, the South Lake Tahoe City Council received a report from the League to Save Lake Tahoe about a collaborative, grassroots program to tackle local litter through outreach to local businesses. To Keep Tahoe Blue, the volunteer-fueled education effort targeted litter items that are far too common: bags, straws, utensils, containers, and other single-use, plastic trash from to-go food.

4:45 p.m. UPDATE: SR89 has reopened around Emerald Bay.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has closed SR89 at Emerald Bay after a snow slide across the roadway Saturday afternoon.

At 1:06 p.m., emergency calls were received of multiple cars trying to get around the popular spot at Lake Tahoe when snow slid across both lanes. CHP is on the scene and has closed SR89 from Eagle Point Campground to Bliss Memorial State Park.

Caltrans is on the way to clear the snow.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - When Larry Ellison, the founder of Oracle Corp., spent $35.8 million in 2017 to buy the Cal Neva Lodge in bankruptcy court, many hoped he'd bring his Midas touch to Lake Tahoe and the aging resort.

Now six years later, the almost 100-year-old resort once owned by Frank Sinatra has been sold again, this time to McWhinney, a leading real estate investment, development, and management firm out of Colorado.
